I believe that proficient language knowledge and use is crucial to a person’s career development and every-day communication skills. I enjoy helping students see progress toward their individual goals while at the same time making learning an exciting challenge and experience. I believe one-on-one tutoring can be the most productive and effective way to learn subject matter in a timely manner. Since receiving my bachelor’s degree in 2007, I have been involved in teaching students of all ages and backgrounds. I hold a certificate for teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) and am currently teaching in the Adult Education Program of our local community college. In 1993, I entered my career in language acquisition by volunteering as an ESL teacher in the newly freed former Soviet satellite state, Latvia. When I returned to the US in 1994, I began teaching adults ESL in a community college. In 1998, due to my unique combination of skills, I was offered as position as ESL coordinator for this same institution. In 2001, I expanded my professional experience by going to work in educational publishing as a marketing manager, promotions manager, and finally a trainer/presenter and curriculum developer for a literacy development company. I follow a method of individual trial and error supplemented with examples and corrections. I have recently graduated from the University of Delaware and intend to pursue a Ph.D. in chemistry within the next few years. My major was in Chemistry with a minor in Biochemistry; I also focused on Theatre, Japanese, French, English, and Biology.
