Possession is 9/10 of the law.. Description is 9/10 of saw.

I have been writing for my whole life, and have a love of the art that is description. Since Mich of humanity's understanding is based on metaphor, description and its subtleties is a key part of any writing process, be it creative or instructional. My favorite form of writing is creative, however I also enjoy writing essays and other pieces based on fact. No matter what form of writing you endeavor to do, getting your point across through description is paramount. I have placed and won poetry contests, and have written many essays of undergraduate and graduate levels.

More About This Tutor...

I have spent most of my life in an academic environment. I thrive on success- not only my own, but also the success of others around me. I became a substitute teacher in order to gain experience as a classroom leader. Tutoring is a necessary duty of an educator. I believe a one on one environment is conducive to learning and retaining information; being able to receive direct feedback from an educator is one of the most valuable assets to a young learner.

I've tutored two kids in my neighborhood for 40 buck every two weeks. It was a marvelous experience because they were very respectful young boys...majority of the time. It was kind of hard for them to keep their focus so i drew a plan which was rewarding them with candy and toys, and of course since it was my idea I didn't charge extra. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to tutor them anymore because had to move with my mother. All in all, no matter the task I will always try my best to achieve!!!

My teaching style has to do primarily with desire; that is, if you want it and work hard, you can achieve your goals. One cannot teach or coach “heart” or discipline – that is all I require of my students -- the desire to learn, achieve, get better at what it is they are doing. I will work diligently to understand what is blocking that road to success, teach tips, tactics, and shortcuts to understanding theory, and support a love of the subject or sport already within you.
For years, my passion has been “to gladly learn and gladly teach.” Since graduating from law school, I coached Cumberland’s National Arbitration team to two consecutive top 20 placements, taught “Criminal Evidence” to Miles College undergrads, and now will being teaching “Research and Writing” at the Birmingham School of Law. I have also taught karate and coached girl’s junior Olympic volleyball, so I’m passi ... read more

I believe that it is often best to work witha student one-on-one, especially to improve their writing. Don't point out their mistakes, praise them for what they are doing well, then show how they can do even better to learn how to write on a college level.
I have extensive writing experience and have written several books including How to Give a Damn Good Speech and Business Writing for Busy People. I have worked as a newspaper reporter, magazine editor, advertising copy writer, corporate speech writer and a marketing director for a publishing company. Many children struggle with classroom learning because they require a different learning method than the one being offered or more direct attention than a teacher of 20+ students can offer. As a dyslexia therapist I was instructed in a number of different approaches to teaching and how to match each one to an individual student's needs. As a tutor I make it my priority to learn not only which subjects a student needs help with but also why they are struggling at all which allows me to adapt the lesson plan in a way that is easy for them to understand and retain.
Even before attaining my degree in English from Jacksonville State University I was passionate about all forms of teaching. I have over a year of experience tutoring college students at Jacksonville State University's Academic Center for Excellence and immediately following that nearly another year of experience tutoring dy ... read more

While attending the University of Mississippi I worked three jobs and finished with a BS in Jouralism. This experience has greatly helped me with my writing and my understanding of words. I have learned how to structure ideas to form a balanced essay and other writing assignments.During the last two years I have worked hard on understanding the principles of writing and different techniques. This has allowed me to finish my first novel and I know look to publish it later this year.
I enjoy the power of teaching and I work well with all types of learners. I am motivated by the mistakes I made because there wasn't anyone to direct me and mentor my decisions. I believe all people have greatness inside of them and I would love to strive forward in helping students decide their greatness. I would love to assist in helping others learn and not make the same mistakes I made.

I would say my teaching style is more relaxed. I believe this helps one see students weaknesses and strengths better. It also allows one to compare the overall effect of teaching for each student. When I see a student falling behind then thats when I take action and try top get them where they should be in that area.

I think differentiated instruction is the best way to teach. This essentially means changing up the instruction in an effort to allow all students to learn. Because students have different learning styles, teachers should try to teach the material in new, different, and creative ways. Teachers should consider the way that the particular child learns best (ex. auditory, visual, performing, ect.)as well as brain hemisphere dominance. Teachers should cater instruction to match the needs of individual learners.
During graduate school, I was a substitute teacher, taught a teaching writing practicum at UAB, and was a reading tutor. I was a student teacher for 8th grade language arts, and then I was a real teacher for 6th grade English. I have taken 18 hours of graduate level English classes, and this is more than is required to earn a Master's degree in secondary English education. I als ... read more

Typically I incorporate a heavy communicative approach to the subject I am teaching, allowing knowledge to be shared through communication. Communication with the student helps to enforce the context of the material, which is essential for full comprehension. Once communication, context, and comprehension have been achieved, I encourage the student to independently solve the problem or demonstrate their newly gained ability in ways useful for the learning process to continue. I usually take a comfortable pace with my student, determining their needs, and intensify my approach as needed. Teaching is, for me, a way to guide a student closer towards the information they seek by showing new and creative ways to approach information.
Having always been intrigued by language, I have spent the majority of my life learning and teaching language skills. Beginning with study abroad, I learne ... read more

As a mother and a certified teacher, I enjoy teaching, tutoring, and working with students of all ages. Through receiving my teaching degree, I recognize the importance of individualized instruction as well as the importance of maintaining patience with and providing comfortable environments for students. I enjoy assisting students reach and exceed their goals. I feel that the best way to help a student understand a concept, or subject, is to determine his or her individual learning style, interests, and perspectives. This type of instruction is not always practical in a classroom, which is why I began tutoring. All students have the potential to succeed, and I am here to assist you or your child in achieving that success.
