My teaching style varies for each student, I try to tailor the work to how the student learns. I have been tutoring students of all ages since I was in high school. I began by tutoring my own peers in math and social studies. I would also tutor children from 1st grade on up in all subjects. Once in college, I tutored college students and younger in many fields, primarily mathematics courses. My specialty quickly became preparation for standardized tests as well as calculus because I have a unique ability to discover how each student learns and tailor the lessons to their needs. I can quickly find where the knowledge gaps exist for each student and fill in those gaps, in order to create a complete understanding of the topic, not just get them to memorize answers.

As a student at MIT I earned my BS and MS degrees simultaneously in a five-year period. I worked primarily in the oil industry with major geological responsibilities on the Alaska North Slope and the North Sea. I have published over 50 technical articles and papers in my field. After my oil industry work I taught high school physical science in Kentucky for 10 years, including earth and space science, physics, and chemistry. I founded and coached the Berea Community High School Academic Team, to district and regional championships. I begin by establishing rapport with the student, and usually I prefer a lighthearted, encouraging style of interaction. I believe every student is capable of learning, but may not have been shown the strategies and skills that will best suit them. I like to help the student identify their learning style, and then teach using strategies that will coincide with that learning style. Often when the student has been taught some different strategies for learning, s/he is more capable of tackling new lessons without additional help. I attained two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in Psychology and the other in Linguistics.
