I am a one-on-one instructor. If chess rules are not known such as piece movement and lack of notation keeping, I will teach you that first. I will gauge your playing level after playing some games with you. From there you will learn tactics, openings, general positional strategy, endgame technique, and etiquette appropriate to your level.
I have taught children and adults chess since 2005. I've done lectures as well as private lessons. I am currently the 1st Board and Captain of the University of Pittsburgh Chess Team. I ran a chess club in Wyncote, Pennsylvania until I left and came to Pittsburgh. I have been playing chess since 1st grade, and I am quite passionate about the game. I also care for my students and improving their performance in tournament and casual play.

I'm a National Candidate Master and I've been teaching children and adults for 5 years. I have taught and coached a national championship winning team and have won numerous state and national championships myself. I teach lessons at Rittenhouse Square and at the Abington Free Library. I have lived in South Jersey all of my life. I received my degree in Accounting from Stockton and have spent most of my career in finance working my way up to Controller for several businesses. When I was laid off, I had always wanted to try teaching and I loved it. I love working with kids (I also coach baseball and football), I really get a kick out of passing my knowledge onto them and seeing their face when it sinks in.
Math to me is like a puzzle... if you can imagine the pieces in your mind, fitting them together in practice is so much easier. A Little Bit About Me...

I just graduated with a BA in Psychology and are two courses short of a minor in Spanish and Sociology. I've always been very strong in the English/Language Arts/Writing areas as well. I am currently a certified substitute teacher and also already do some elementary tutoring. Some of my previous tutoring experience include writing, some psychological statistics and some basic math/language skills.
I love to teach and help others in general. I always had difficulty when I was younger finding a tutor or some help in my studies that I could understand easily. I am a very patient and have a great sense of humor that come in handy during subjects of frustration.
