I am a one-on-one instructor. If chess rules are not known such as piece movement and lack of notation keeping, I will teach you that first. I will gauge your playing level after playing some games with you. From there you will learn tactics, openings, general positional strategy, endgame technique, and etiquette appropriate to your level.
I have taught children and adults chess since 2005. I've done lectures as well as private lessons. I am currently the 1st Board and Captain of the University of Pittsburgh Chess Team. I ran a chess club in Wyncote, Pennsylvania until I left and came to Pittsburgh. I have been playing chess since 1st grade, and I am quite passionate about the game. I also care for my students and improving their performance in tournament and casual play.

Math to me is like a puzzle... if you can imagine the pieces in your mind, fitting them together in practice is so much easier. I am extremely patient and easy going, even in coaching, most kids gravitated to me because I could speak to them on their level. You have to explain it in a way that kids can understand. Positive feedback is very critical to let them know they are going down the right path.
I have lived in South Jersey all of my life. I received my degree in Accounting from Stockton and have spent most of my career in finance working my way up to Controller for several businesses. When a student is challenged with a physics problem, they feel overwhelmed because they do not understand how to approach the problem. For example, making a sandwich you first use the bread to contain the other ingredients such as the meat, vegetables and condiments.
