I began my teaching career as a piano teacher in 1994, taught a pre-piano bells class & obtained licensure in Kindermusik in 1996. I obtained a BM in Piano Pedagogy in 1997. I then went out east to nanny for identical twins with Down Syndrome for a year which gave me experience with children not only academically but on a day to day basis as well as rooted me well in understanding children with special needs. I then completed a BS degree in Elementary Education & was a substitute for the school district for over 7 years. I have also been teaching piano lessons privately for 7 years now. I am a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. My main interests and degree lie in medical sciences. I have a Bachelors of biomedical sciences degree with chemistry and psychology minors. I like to help students use their minds first instead of relying on machines (such as calculators). When they work it out in their minds they learn the process and can apply it to other things. Reading requires the knowledge of pronunciation, syllables, root words for meanings, prefixes/suffixes, and how they are put together. It is more than just learning sight words. If one is analytical and precise in the beginning then a firm foundation is laid for using basic information to build ideas and develop new thoughts. i.e.: one cannot play a piece with feeling if one cannot play the notes, rhythms, and dynamics.
