I received an associate's degree in accounting and I am currently enrolled at Kaplan University in the Health Sciences program. I recently finished a course in College Algebra and I tutored four students. I also home schooled both my children from the time they were in grade school until they received their high school GEDs from a local community college. I very much enjoy teaching, especially Algebra. I feel that everyone has the ability to learn; but we all learn at different rates and in different ways. It is a matter of finding what works best for the learner and having the patience to get them through the fears that come with learning something new...or learning something that has not come easily. I like to use a lot of descriptive words and illustrations which I find are very helpful for many people, and I believe that much repetition is essential for retention of the material

Teaching is my passion. My teaching style is to first evaluate the extent of the student's knowledge in the specific subject area and then start from the beginning and brush up, filling the gaps in knowledge. I work quite well with non-traditional learners and use props when I need to. Sometimes I find that this is the best approach for visual learners.
