I help students to think.

I taught English for 40 years and am now recently retired. I taught English overseas while in the US Peace Corps, 1969-71. I taught English at MATC for two years. Most of my career was at the high school level teaching all types of classes, such as literature, Shakespeare, creative writing, reading, plays and drama, speech, etc. after retirement, I became a writing facilitator for elementary teachers. A Little Bit About Me...

I was homeschooled for the majority of my education which enabled me to assit my younger brothers and sisters in their studies. I taught a few Science classes including botony and a study of birds and have tutored in highschool math as well. I played volleyball, took 3 years of piano, and was a member of Chior as well. I worked as a teachers aide in a preschool for 2 years. I worked with children from the age of 6 weeks to 5 years. I plan on going to college for either business or diognostic sonography.
I love working with kids of all ages. All children are unique and they all learn in different ways. I love teaching in a hands on style in which the student not only has an algorithm of how to solve a specific problem, but has a thorough understanding of the concepts behind the algorithm. I enjoy having analogies or hands-on activities to demonstrate the concepts. I believe that many times people understand the basic concepts from physics in their daily life, but are frightened by equations. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the most important key to teaching is having a passionate teacher. When a student has a teacher who is interested in the subject matter, they cannot help but be interested too. In regards to my favorite subject, history, I believe it is best taught by focusing on the ‘story’ aspect of it. When a student can learn the over-arching narrative and hear the inspiring stories of the men and women who have made history, the dates and details will readily follow.
