More About This Tutor...

I tutored middle school and high school students in math when I was in a high school, specifically algebra I and II, as well as SAT prep. In college, I helped students in calculus, biology, and statistics, as these are the primary focus of my undergraduate degree. I was also a Resident Advisor for 3 years, which lent itself to helping students with coursework as well as college life. Finally, in Michigan, I tutored master's level students in their statistics courses, both individually and in study groups.

Professional Exam Prep and Subject Tutoring

During my time as Head Tutor at UNCA, regardless of department, I tutored over 200 students in mathematics and physics. Of those students, at least 80% saw an increase of at least one letter grade and at least 20% saw an increase by two letter grades. Many students I tutored in one subject came back to be for tutoring in the other. For many of my students I served as an invaluable mentor who guided them from their earliest days as a college freshman to the day the walked across the stage and earned their degree. Over the past five years, I have helped more than 100 students gain admission to their dream colleges and have averaged a score increase of approximately 260 points for the SAT and 6.5 points for the ACT. I have personally played a role in the lives of students who have earned admission into such institutions as Stanford, Duke, UVA, Cal Tech, Georgia Tech, UNC, and UPenn. ... read more

I also took both college-level General Chemistry courses and both calculus-based Physics courses. I also was responsible in most of my classes for developing a weekly schedule for tutoring/studying course topics with fellow classmates and friends. I have participated in many study groups where I actively contribute information on the topic of interest; there we help each other and teach each other. Also, I'm the oldest sibling of four, I have had many years of helping out with homework and tutoring in reading, writing and math. My education consisted of diverse studies and I learned a great deal of mathematics and sciences. Also, naturally I use proper grammar and have a good hand for writing. I am a very creative person and can come up with unique topics. I'm also very artsy and appreciate a good hands on experiment.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe a teacher is there to provide a service for the student, and in that capacity should be able to offer a style of instruction or combination of styles of instruction that allow the student to experience meaningful learning. I am patient and able to adapt to a variety of learning styles, as I've learned in my years of TA-ing, teaching, and tutoring. I have yet to meet a student who was unable to learn the subject matter of an appropriate course, they just need the proper motivation and approach. Alot of what ensures that a student reaches their potential is the patience and creativity of their teacher.
