Physics is one of my top subjects! I have taught Physics on the high school level for over ten years and at DeVry University for over twenty years.

I am able to break a complex problem into small, discrete steps which the students seem to appreciate. An approach I use in my teaching is the I rarely will tell the student outright what to do to get the answer or just what the answer is. I will quiz the student in the steps they took to reach the point where they are stuck. If there is a misstep they took in their work, I will ask them leading questions in an effort to help them discover where they went astray, followed by questions to help them realize the step they should have taken. Then I will guide them through reasoning out what the remaining steps for solving the problem should be. When I was teaching high school freshman Algebra I, I develop a strategy for mastering word problems that was successful to the point that students actually enjoyed doing word problems.

Enthusiastic learner and tutor!

With respect to tutoring, I worked during the summer of 2009 as a teachers assistant for a summer-school program known as Korea Poly. The students were 3-6th graders and required assistance in completing homework and practicing and refining their English writing and speaking skills. My duties included checking and correcting homework assignments, and being available during the homework hours for questions and help. I find that teaching works best if you tailor the material to your audience - i.e. you don't want to lose them OR bore them. Use what they know as a foundation to build on to teach new concepts. If material is difficult or unfamiliar to your class it's important to be prepared in advance with several approaches to get the material across. Review material periodically to reinforce confidence in the students and always make sure they have a firm grasp on material before moving on.

I have tutored math twice, in two different environments. The first time was to native Spanish speakers who were studying to earn their GED. Tutoring was done in small groups, once or twice per week. We covered everything ranging from two digit addition to basic algebra. My second time tutoring, I tutored a high school trigonometry student. I have had past experience tutoring students at a local Learning Centering in Scottsdale where I worked with children from early elementary to high school.
