While completing my BS in engineering, I spent two years tutoring math, physics, and optics. During my senior year I was also able to teach a portion of two terms of the freshman optics class. During the last four years I have worked as an aerospace engineer, and as a private contractor. Although these weren't teaching positions, I believe that these experiences have given me unique opportunities to share my knowledge and will be helpful to me in the future for teaching and tutoring. I have been interested in education my entire life. After receiving my B.A. from Penn State University, I was an elementary teacher in my hometown, Oxford, Pennsylvania. This experience ignited a spark in me to continue my education. I received an M.A. and Ed.D in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. More recently, I was a student at Western Washington University in their elementary teacher certification program. I've had experience as an elementary and high school paraeducator working with special needs' students. I enjoy tutoring children of all ages in reading, especially phonics, and some math. As a regular classroom teacher, I felt hampered due to class size. I was never satisfied connecting with just a few students. Every student was important to me. I realized that the only way for me to really reach students was by reducing the teacher-student ratio.
