Experience Summary
I have been interested in education my entire life. After receiving my B.A. from Penn State University, I was an elementary teacher in my hometown, Oxford, Pennsylvania. This experience ignited a spark in me to continue my education. I received an M.A. and Ed.D in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. More recently, I was a student at Western Washington University in their elementary teacher certification program. I've had experience as an elementary and high school paraeducator working with special needs' students. I enjoy tutoring children of all ages in reading, especially phonics, and some math.
Teaching Style
As a regular classroom teacher, I felt hampered due to class size. I was never satisfied connecting with just a few students. Every student was important to me. I realized that the only way for me to really reach students was by reducing the teacher-student ratio. As a tutor, I found that teaching smaller groups of students or one-on-one was for me. Using this style, I feel strongly that students learn more, particularly at home. Students are much more comfortable at home which creates an excellent environment for learning. Learning is a joyful experience and students have a better chance of tapping into their potential.
