I mentored elementary kids when i was in middle school for a year. It was an amazing feling knowing that I was helping younger kids learn to read and do math. My relationship with them was excllent because it5 waswnt just a job to me it was an oppertunity that changed my life. Since I love working with kids so much I thought that tutoring would be a great oppertunity to do what I love AND continue going to school to be a pediatrician.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very progressive. I utilize Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences quite a bit. I try my best with individualized testing to identify the students learning style. Then once this is identified, I can teach using the way that the student learns the most effectively. An aha light goes off and they understand the material now with a proud smile. To me, the best part of teaching is when the student starts to understand the material!
I am a very reliable, dependable, caring and compassionate person and I have a very strong and diverse educational background. I am very strong in Reading and English. I also have taught ESOL and GED in the School System and have a great deal of patience with that! I am very knowledgeable of study skills. FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY TUTOR (K-12) mdonasci@fau.edu

Business student at Florida Atlantic University. I graduated from A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts with honors in the visual arts, specializing in Architecture and Mathematics. I have also tutored for 4 years now while in school by teaching a wide variety of subjects to students from the ages of 5-20.
I use a Reciprocal/Practice based tutoring style. This an effective method because it allows me to interact with the student and help them grow more efficiently while holding an open discussion environment in each lesson. I then reinforce it with practice based assignments which are followed up with reviews in the beginning of the following class. This makes the student not only memorize definitions, but to also understand the reasoning behind different concepts.

My comments on tutoring Government : I currently teach at the college level.

While I currently teach in the social sciences at the college level, I have fairly diverse experiences in teaching. I have taught or tutored virtually all subjects up to Adult Learning. I have been a home school teacher, worked with the Boys and Girls Clubs, tutored GED and English language learners and taught or assisted at colleges. I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California and a Master's from FAU. I love learning, and would love to help you!

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in the constructionist theory of education, children come with some knowledge of the world and need that to be the basis of anything new they learn. Build on the ideas they already have and make learning fun.
I have lead several study groups with varying success. Students need to discover that the education they seek is well within their grasp. I have tutor students of various ages and learning levels, no one is unteachable and every student has the potential to grasp any concept. Students need the proper motivation and learning to be fun and engaging. When abstract concepts are related to real world subject matter students grasp the ideas with more success. It is my goal to help your learner find uses for everything they feel that they learn in school without purpose.

Teaching is enjoyable to me, but the bureaucracy of the school systems is not. I believe that there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to helping students learn. My children attended Montessori school during their elementary school years, and benefitted greatly from that method of education. They were treated as individuals and it well prepared them for the next steps in their educations. One of my children is a Judge and another is a doctor, so it must have worked. That type of individual attention draws me to tutoring.
I taught high school for one year and middle school for a year and a half. I was certified to teach social studies 6-12, though I have let my certification expire. I have worked with middle school students for the past four years in an administrative and service capacity. My teaching style is a combination of humor, question and answer, life experience, and history. I treat my students as adults. I follow the road, but go with the flow; no battle plan survives the first shot. There are many paths to learning. I never assume mine is the only way. Teaching is as much about learning as it is teaching. I listen to what my students have to say, and respect the opinions they have. I value honesty and set an example by admitting what I don’t know. My job is to discover, inspire and develop wisdom. Every teacher has been surprised by some brilliant insight expressed by a "low" performing student. It happens everyday. I’m convinced every student has a particular wisdom we just have to find, and encourage it.

I have taught in the public school system for the past three years.Seeing as class size has increased, it has become more and more difficult for teachers to provide the individualized attention students' require. Being aware of different learning styles will also allow me to customize my approach that is best suited for each students situation. Working with a tutor can help bridge the learning gap and make a lasting impact on students and their future education. It is personally rewarding to know that you have made a difference in the students life. Flexibility, time management, a sense of humor and most of all, patience are all qualities that I would incorporate into my tutoring sessions.
