My teaching style provides a strong emphasis on realistic experiences which bring theory and practice together harmoniously.
I have been in the health care profession for almost 20 years. I began my nursing career as a nursing assistant, worked as a LPN for 6 years before I became a RN in 2004. I received my Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2013 and am currently studying for a Masters of Nursing as an Educator. I have practiced mainly in the acute care arena with a focus on medical-surgical an progressive care nursing. I also have extensive experience in infusion therapy, abdominal transplant, diabetes education, and in home health and long-term care. I recently became Board Certified in medical-surgical nursing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

My approach is to encourage students to define their learning goals and then to discover how the learning the content can help them achieve their goals. I like to use real life examples to help students recall what they have learned. I am less interested in rote memorization. I tend to be structured and patient.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that much of the difficulty in learning Science is that people try to learn a series of facts rather than a story. It is difficult to do well when a student is dependent on his/her ability to recall from extensive facts where no understanding of the interrelationship is appreciated. I believe scientific conversation regarding seemingly complex subjects can serve to demystify the material. Humor often helps in this. I have worked extensively with students who know the material yet can’t test well for a variety of reasons.
I have an undergraduate degree (BS) in Biology and a graduate degree (PhD) in Physiology. I have experience as a Professor of Anatomy in Graduate Physical Therapy curriculum.
