I would describe my teaching style in terms of the activity, belaying. Slack is given to the rope at times so that the climber may advance, or traverse, the face of the mountain. When the climber feels tired, or incapable, the rope needs tightening so the climber stays secure. If the climber falls from the face of the mountain the taught rope will prevent injury or possible demise. I tend to give my students slack when I feel they are advancing in terms of curriculum, yet once I notice their tendency to rest, or falter, I tighten my teaching approach by using more straightforward methods so that they are not confused, or do not wear themselves out with struggle. This is all so they reach the top of whatever mountain they choose to conquer.
My bachelor's degree in English serves as an example for the effort and time committed to education and a service to academia. I learned literar ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that education and learning are two of the most exciting and fulfilling elements of life and believe that helping others to learn is a way to give something back to this world. I have a Masters degree in Business. Not surprisingly, my math skills are quite good. Additionally, I possess strong communication skills (verbal and written) and am working on my first novel. In my professional life, I have managed staff and welcomed opportunities to teach and mentor. An intern from years ago recently contacted me and told me that he still fondly remembers us working on a white board to problem solve an issue. I believe that learning and problem solving should be fun, a puzzle that can be cracked if we just approach it the right way.
I love the learning process. Few things in life are as rewarding as teaching and learning. Stylistically, I would consider myself to a patient and ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have over twenty years of experience teaching reading. I completed all of the Houghton/Mifflin Language Arts training sessions that taught California teachers how to be expert Language Arts teachers. I have also attended many Language Arts training sessions through my school district and county education offices. I also ran Language Arts and ESL Intervention programs at my school. I have a B.S. and a Master's degree in Education, and I am CLAD Certified. I love teaching and get along very well with children. I respect them and I know how to inspire them to do their best work.
I believe in "Assertive Discipline". This style uses lots of verbal praise, rewards and incentives. It keeps learning on a positive, moving forward track. This style of teaching is never negative. It encourages learning through engaging, age-appropriate, research-based, fun activities. It starts by assessing ... read more

Since I have worked students with a wide variety of learning issues; I feel that I am well prepared to assess and deliver educational materials and instruction to any student. I understand that each student has his learning style and prefers specific modalities such as: games & puzzles, logical sequential, the arts, naturalistic, etc. Although those would not be the only modalities I would use to educate my students, I feel that I must acknowledge this and respond with a portion of the lessons directed at personal interest. Also, the student's learning environment is important. My students are the recipients of a positive climate where tangible rewards/awards are delivered along with praise, emotional support and encouragement.
I have been in the field of education for approximately 14 years of which the last 8 years have been special education. I have worked with students of ... read more
