ALL STUDENTS WELCOME!

I have been a self-employed Tutor since April, 2006. Special needs and home schooled students are welcomed. Nothing makes me happier than when I see the smiles on the faces of my students when they succeed rather than fail. I assist all students in skill building and creating a life-long love of learning. I provide on-going feedback to parents and am happy to work with the teachers of my students.
Whenever I can, I like to be very hands-on in my teaching my students. For example, once I was teaching my class about trees. I had them go outside and collect samples of bark which had fallen on the ground. Then we created a gigantic mural in my classroom and glued the pieces of bark to a tree we had drawn.

I believe every student can learn! School was never meant to be a struggle, an effort yes, but not a struggle!
Hello! I have 15 years of teaching experience in the classroom and have been tutoring now since January of 2012. I have a true passion for teaching! While in the classroom my average student came up 3-4 grade levels in a year in reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, and language mechanics. My certi ... read more

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I am a certified Special Education Teacher K-12 in Florida. I work with students who have dyslexia and related learning disabilities on a daily basis. I myself have dyslexia, but when I was in school, the McKay scholarship wasn't around. I am certified in the LindaMood Belle LiPS method. This method has shown, through research, to be one of the best methods for teaching student with dyslexia how to read. This is actually how I learned how to read.

I have been working as a teacher for three years now. I enjoy working in a private school setting (two years experience) because I can devote more time to lesson planning, after school, and creating individualized/small group curriculum as there are less students in the private school I teach at. I am the Reading Specialist and I love my job. I myself had to learn to cope with dyslexia and ADHD. I know what students are going through because I have experienced it first hand. I teach a great deal of students who have learning disabilities as well as ASD. I create and implement my own lessons.
This depends on the student. I can teach verbally for students who are auditory learners, visually for student who are visual learners, and kinesthetically for students who are kinesthetic learners. I know that every student can learn, it just depends on finding the specific learning style fo ... read more

My teaching style in general is aimed at teaching independent critical thinking and problem solving skills, with much positive praise along the way. This approach tends to foster a sense of accomplishment and skills so that the student will learn how to learn, and learn how to approach confidently assignments and tasks independently. Of course, the specifics of this approach depend upon the age, individual needs, and processing style of the student. My ultimate goal for students of all ages is that they learn how to not need me, but learn how to reach their own potential. I strive to make learning enjoyable and want my students to feel confident that they can generalize their approach and skills to all areas.
In addition to 3 years of formal college teaching, I have conducted many evaluations ages 3 through adult to identify learning disabilities, and made recommendations for opt ... read more

As an University of North Florida, special education gradate, I have always loved children with disabilities. I have pre-interned and interned in multiple special education settings and non special education settings. I have been an aspiring teacher for the past 5 years and I have completed that dream. I am qualified to teach various learning styles and challenge the desires that all children have to succeed.
My teaching style is based on one thing...all children can succeed. I am the person that welcomes the challenges and weaknesses of students and turn those into successes. I am the teacher who students won't have to feel like they are not the best in the class based only on their grades, but encourage them that they are. Encouragement and celebration is the key to inspiring children to succeed.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have developed many different teaching styles over the years. In a classroom setting, it is usually necessary to present the material in a variety of formats in order to reach all the different students. My goal is to adjust the teaching styles to make the learning process enjoyable and successful. I prefer hands-on, models, visual aids, and even rhyming songs to help them retain the information. Communicating with the classroom teacher and the parents is also an important factor in the tutoring process. I believe that a student will be more successful in the classroom if they can relate to that teacher's style. I am looking forward to working with individual students and celebrate their success.
Educating students has been a part of my life since the 6th grade.I was asked to tutor a younger student and I discovered the joy of teaching. I also enjoyed the excitement and the challe ... read more
