ALL STUDENTS WELCOME!

Whenever I can, I like to be very hands-on in my teaching my students. For example, once I was teaching my class about trees. I had them go outside and collect samples of bark which had fallen on the ground. Then we created a gigantic mural in my classroom and glued the pieces of bark to a tree we had drawn.
I have been a self-employed Tutor since April, 2006. Special needs and home schooled students are welcomed. Nothing makes me happier than when I see the smiles on the faces of my students when they succeed rather than fail. I assist all students in skill building and creating a life-long love of learning. I provide on-going feedback to parents and am happy to work with the teachers of my students.

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I am a certified Special Education Teacher K-12 in Florida. I work with students who have dyslexia and related learning disabilities on a daily basis. I myself have dyslexia, but when I was in school, the McKay scholarship wasn't around. I am certified in the LindaMood Belle LiPS method. This method has shown, through research, to be one of the best methods for teaching student with dyslexia how to read. This is actually how I learned how to read.

This depends on the student. I can teach verbally for students who are auditory learners, visually for student who are visual learners, and kinesthetically for students who are kinesthetic learners. I know that every student can learn, it just depends on finding the specific learning style for that student.
I have been working as a teacher for three years now. I enjoy working in a private school setting (two years experience) because I can devote more time to lesson planning, after school, and creating individualized/small group curriculum as there are less students in the private school I teach at. I am the Reading Specialist and I love my job. I myself had to learn to cope with dyslexia and ADHD. I know what students are going through because I have experienced it first hand. I teach a great deal of students who have learning disabilities as well as ASD. I create and implement ... read more

I Will Meet You Where You Are!

I believe every student can learn! School was never meant to be a struggle, an effort yes, but not a struggle!
Hello! I have 15 years of teaching experience in the classroom and have been tutoring now since January of 2012. I have a true passion for teaching! I have taught in the parochial, private, and public schools. I taught at Assumption Catholic School from 1997-2004, English and Reading to 6th-12th grade ESE students at The Broach School from 2004-2008, and Intensive Reading to 11th and 12th graders at Andrew Jackson High School (public inner city urban in Duval County) from 2010-2011. I have also conducted FCAT, ACT, and SAT prep, as well as study skills in the summer months when students don't have schoolwork! While in the classroom my average student came up 3-4 grade levels in a year in reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, and language mechanics. My certi ... read more

I believe in earning the trust of my students before I'm able to teach them. I earn their trust by trying to understand who they are and what interests them. After learning as much as I can about my students, I tell them a little about myself: what I like to do, where I grew up, and some of my accomplishments. As time passes, I use my life and teaching experience to help my students understand concepts, principals, and procedures. Example: I like to encourage my students to make illustrations, diagrams, and charts to help them understand fractions, human anatomy, or English compostion. In conclusion, I strive to motivate my students by giving them positive reinforcement and praise.

I taught in a classroom for one year as a teacher. I have taught title 1 for 3rd and 4th grade for one year. I have subtaught for about 3 to 4 years. I have tutored for about 11 years in all levels of math and basic reading.
I am a visiual learner but I understand that all students learn differently. So, I like to change the way I teach to the needs of the student and constantly turning the tables of their questions with questions that make them think and answer for themselves. I can read and write upside down very fluently and I believe this helps the students understanding. I have been voted teacher of the month continuously and students request me by name frequently. I currently work in a tutoring center where I work with 3 on 1. I try to make the student comforable and wants to work as well as enjoys it. A Little Bit About Me...

While working towards my bachelors degree in English (with a minor in Political Science), I worked as a substitute teacher in the public school system for a year and a half, in order to ascertain my affinity for many different levels and subjects. My writing and grammatical skills are excellent; in 2004 I was awarded First Place in Undergraduate Writing at the University of North Florida. My first professional teaching experience complemented my areas of expertise perfectly: I taught English as a Foreign Language to business professionals in Argentina for six months, using the communicative approach. During this time I learned much about South American politics and culture, as well as the Spanish language. Upon return I taught English to high school students for one year at a private school for students with learning disabilities and emotional/ behavioral problems. This summer, I ha ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with all children. I find it fascinating that each child's method of learning is different for each and every one. Helping a child discover what their unique way of learning is and helping them use tools to maximize their learning methods to the fullest is truly rewarding.
I have experience at all levels in special education. I am certified in elementary education with a concentration in special education for K-12. I am efficient with basic sign language. I am not fluent, but know roughly 100 signs. I often use sign language as a form of teaching. I find that the visual aid assists in recalling a student's memory, especially with those who have forms of learning disabilities. I sincerely enjoy teaching one on one and love watching students reach success.
