EXPERT TUTOR-MultiSubject; Home/ONLINE; +WRITING instructor

I am a Cum Laude graduate with a B.A. from Belmont University, and I have been an educator for more than a decade since. My experience includes classroom teaching, small group instruction, and individualized tutoring (in person OR online via Zoom, email, FaceTime etc.) I specialize in English, Language Arts, writing composition, Latin, and other Humanities subjects. But I am also an effective & experienced instructor of Maths or Sciences. Outside of subject-specific tutoring, I offer assistance with academic advising, study skills, test prep, daily homework, and any written assignments. My comments on tutoring American History : Highly qualified k-8

For 20 years I worked for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, as a fifth through 7th Grade classroom teacher. I taught all of the academic subjects in various combinations, sometimes all at once to a self-contained class. The State of Tennessee recognized me as "Highly Qualified" in all subjects, from Kindergarten through 8th Grade. I served on the district's math council for 5 years, helped direct the district's science fair one year, and worked extensively in the field of arts-based curriculum development. I also was trained in the IB curriculum, and implemented it for 10 years.
Constructivist, multi-sensory, inquiry-based.

More About This Tutor...

I like to see where the student is and meet him there. Look at what needs to be taught and discover the best way to impart that learning to the individual child.
I have taught K for 13 years. I understand the value of one on one time, and that students are all different. Recently I spent 10 months teaching missionary children in Uganda. There I taught 4th, 5th, and 7th graders. Students in my class have had vision issues, autism, aspergers, and ADD/ADHD. With each situation, I have evaluated where the student was and revamped how I was teaching to meet their needs.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently completing my final year at Vanderbilt Law School. Over the past three years, I have taught a class and provided one-on-one tutoring for students preparing to take the LSAT. I also taught an upper level course while in grad school (it was in radio production). While I was in undergrad, I spent time tutoring elementary and middle school aged children over the internet. All together, I have helped dozens of individual students in a private setting and nearly a hundred students in the classroom. Personally, I love numbers and have always been very comfortable with math. But my grades and test scores have always been just as strong in other subjects, and I am confident that I can help you or your child in any of the areas listed below.

My comments on tutoring American History : I'm most knowledgeable about 19th century American history.

I like to combine any necessary lecture with some sort of hands on activity if possible. I also
I received my MA in the History of Art from the University of Georgia in August of 2010 and specialize in modern and contemporary art. I believe that an appreciation of art and its history is best cultivated by examining the major themes and tropes of past art and design and structurally linking it to the social history and art of later periods and when possible to local art. I have a broad education in all periods of art, but I'm most proficient with art from the mid 18th-21st centuries. I teach art appreciation as an adjunct instructor and am currently curating an exhibit of photographic prints and illustrations at the Nashville Public Library. As a graduate assistant I also assisted students with writing and improving their understanding of the material. You may find a more complete C ... read more

As top graduate of the University of Tennessee for work in humanities/mathematics and valedictorian in the mathematics department, I carry a great breadth of mathematical coursework and equally extensive experiences in tutoring material of all levels. Additionally, I am widely recognized as an international leader in the exploration of mathematical aspects of wave-based phenomena and a national leader in the search for efficient means to factor super-sparse, high-degree polynomials. The model of students as empty vessels filled by professors’ pontifications has too long prevented the former from accessing their full potential as learners. When students are given the trust and challenge to handle material maturely, they rise to the occasion. This may be through discussion, Q&A, or independent assignment, as long as the student is given the opportunity to excel. An educator's responsibilities are to find which method that best offers students the chance to use their unique skills to succeed and then to make subject material relevant to one’s daily life and future. This develops accountability, drive for further education, and development of the student’s own inherent talents. A student thus taught is more confident in their achievements and better prepared for life in the classroom and beyond.

I enjoy working with all ages of students, from kindergarten through adults. My teaching style is based on the individuals I am working with and the curriculum being used. I try to gauge which methods work best for the students I'm working with and and am creative, patient, and flexible. I have good rapport with students and work hard to find ways to help them learn.
After graduating from Seattle Pacific University with a degree in English, I spent a year working as a reading tutor in an elementary school through AmeriCorps (the specific program I worked with was the Washington Reading Corps). During this time I worked in many of the same schools, providing small group and individual tutoring and educational support. In addition, I earned my T ... read more

I have worked with children at all different ages, as well as children with largely varying developmental levels. I believe that encouraging children when they do well is absolutely necessary to effective learning. I also learn each child's disposition so that I can develop effective ways to redirect when they are not on the right path. I wholeheartedly believe that to get the respect that comes with a child trusting me enough to learn from me, I must show 100% respect to that child; it is an even exchange. I truly care about children, their well-being, and their futures and I know that when I interact with children, they recognize my sincerity and are therefore able to trust, and learn.
