My comments on tutoring Jazz Dancing : Extensive study and performance

Most of what I do is project-based learning, often culminating in a performance for family and friends. I focus on healthy and above all SAFE ways of utilizing our bodies as our instruments. Emphasis is placed on the enjoyment of the process, not the perfection of it. I work to challenge, but not overwhelm my students, and make decisions based on the student's needs and desires.
At 21 years old I am a performer and have 30+ credits of stage, film, radio and television performances. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style in the classroom involves the creation of agreements for decorum and expected performance criteria, usually in the form of a rubric for each project assigned. My goal as a tutor is to assist a child with his/her own particular educational needs. I especially enjoy working one on one with children of all ages, observing, listening and drawing them out in creative ways to enhance their learning process.
Although I have only tutored English in Japan to adults and children, I believe my bachelor degree in French and Master's degree in art education combined with one year of student teaching in art provide a strong foundation to be an effective tutor. I can also add my extensive background in holistic health which can be a contribution to the mental/emotional/physical components of a child's learning paradigm.

I have always been drawn to children and have enjoyed being with and teaching them. Before working in preschool, my teaching style was unrefined, and based largely on a general paternalistic instinct. My experience at the preschool taught me the value of coordinated language use in dealing with different students in different situations between care-givers. I learned how to be very direct with students while still maintaining compassion and understanding. I respect children's need for expression, but I also know the importance of rules and boundaries. Within those boundaries, though, I believe that kids have a lot to teach older generations as we teach them.
