Learning how to learn is the main goal of all education.

My comments on tutoring Jazz Dancing : Extensive study and performance

At 21 years old I am a performer and have 30+ credits of stage, film, radio and television performances. I have been singing and dancing my whole life, studying from world class instructors, such as Mark Yonally, Catherine McDaniel, Kathleen Clawson, Delreen Hafenrichter, Wendy Barker, and others. I have studied music education, theatre, voice and dance at Oklahoma City University as well as the University of New Mexico. I have several years experience working with children as young as 3 and adults up to 40 in various aspects of dance, music, theatre and film editing. I began my college career with ambitions to become an elementary school teacher, earning 33 credit hours in Marquette University's Elementary Education program and logging 80 hours of observation and in-class aide work in the Milwaukee Public School system. Upon leaving this program and picking up at the Universtiy of New Mexico, I graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Spanish, leaving me with near-native proficiency in that language and a burgeoning ability in Portuguese, which was my minor field of study. Before beginning at UNM, I taught for one year as a team teacher in a preschool catering to homeless families where I was exposed to teaching in a setting heavily influenced by social and personal developmental delays, leading to some creative teaching experience. A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent graduate from the University of New Mexico. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Spanish and BS in Sociology, this two combined have allowed me to understand social sciences to a new level. A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have only tutored English in Japan to adults and children, I believe my bachelor degree in French and Master's degree in art education combined with one year of student teaching in art provide a strong foundation to be an effective tutor. I can also add my extensive background in holistic health which can be a contribution to the mental/emotional/physical components of a child's learning paradigm.
My teaching style in the classroom involves the creation of agreements for decorum and expected performance criteria, usually in the form of a rubric for each project assigned. My goal as a tutor is to assist a child with his/her own particular educational needs. I especially enjoy working one on one with children of all ages, observing, listening and drawing them out in creative ways to enhance their learning process.

The information must be timely, accurate, credible, relevant, etc. The days of going to a library and pulling volumes of texts to research substantive information has changed. Now, most students understand what a Boolean search is. However, many don’t know much beyond the internet.
