My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : I received scores in the 700s in High School and have helped my colleagues and friends on the Math sections as well. I enjoy logic and solving problems.

2012 college graduate, majored in German language with a French language minor. I tutored foreign languages all 4 years in the Academic Resource Center at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. As part of our seminar classes, I also tutored Math at the Alexander II Elementary School in Macon. I have volunteer experience at the Joshua House After-school program. I was born in Romania and visit my family often so I can refresh my knowledge of the Romanian language as well.

In my disciplines, the value of understanding totally outweighs rote memorization and learning of “recipes” for solving problems. I believe students understand new concepts in terms of their previous experience and background. I attempt to link previous experience to new experience and promote meaningful learning. I believe in inquiry based learning, or teaching any subject by incorporating the student's natural curiosity and drawing connections to their interests. I don't taking a long time to teach a student how to approach a single problem or concept and foster their understanding of the material so that they will understand how to approach the problem on their own. In other words, I put energy into explaining why they should do something so that they can reason through it themselves in a test situation.

I worked for 16 years as a high school science and math instructor at a small school which necessitated that I teach all the courses in the 9-12 curriculum in rotation. These courses included all levels of mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics. I qualified to teach AP courses and wrote a number of integrated curriculum for my school district. I also tutor in the school's tutoring center because many of the students need the additional assistance.
I would describe my teaching style as being essentially constructivist. Since a child, I have always been curious of the world around me. My interests culminated with the completion of two degrees in the natural sciences.
