I want to show my students how wonderful Mathematics is. Many students feel that it is too difficult and confusing. I will show these students that they can do it, and they can do anything else that they set their mind to. Also, I will show them how fun it really is. It might be a challenge for some people, but when they sit down with me they can learn Math. I am always eager to show people what I know.
When I began my college career at Penn State, I did not have teaching in mind. I originally started out as an Engineering student. It was at Penn State that my love for Mathematics strengthened. I knew that the reason I started engineering in the first place was that I was good at Mathematics. I realized that I love it so much that I would like to spread my passion for Mathematics to others. After giving it much though, I decided to begin substitute teaching. I had many positive ex ... read more

I have tutored many different children at different levels of mathematics. I am dedicated and genuinely enjoy tutoring. I have improved grades and understanding of the subject with all students I've worked with.
I am able to understand the specific learning style of the student and explain things in the way that they will best understand. If they can't grasp what I'm teaching, I am able explain the same exact thing in a number of different ways so that they can learn it. I like to teach tricks that I learned and use in math that have helped me.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am an extremely flexible teacher. I believe that the onus is on the teacher to help the student find the best way he or she can learn a subject, as well as to read the signs that a student is getting frustrated. I am well trained at assessing the strengths and weaknesses of a person's learning abilities and using that information to teach new material. For example, if teaching a math lesson to someone who doesn't have a natural numerical understanding of math, I would teach the lesson through examples that use their language or spacial skills. I enjoy watching a student understand something on a deeper level than they thought they could achieve. This is why I've volunteered my time for so many years and I've found it very satisfying.
I was employed at Georgian Court University as a physics tutor, but volunteered my time to tutor many students there. Dr. Murali Temburni (a biology ... read more

From the beginning we must let the students know what expectations we have so that they can prepare themselves for the upcoming tasks at hand. I also believe that you must have some flexibility in teaching in understanding that some topics may take longer to cover than initially expected. I have also found from my experience that when teaching or tutoring it is best to look at the student's past work and grades to see where there are problem areas. I am patient and like to review to make sure the foundation is strong in the subject area we are working on before we begin more advanced topics.
As an undergraduate I worked for the university learning center and the educational opportunity program. I tutored students in various subjects including: introductory physics, calculus 1, calculus 2, calculus 3, and freshman level English. I was also a tutor for Newark public schools. My teaching style is more apt to be visual and interactive because I believe most students who are struggling in mathematics are helped by these methods. I believe that mathematics is highly stigmatized in the way that once a student gets frustrated by it, they easily dismiss the entire field as being foreign to them. This is where I step in and show them that even if they are having trouble with all the formulas in algebra they can learn them a more visual way, say using geometry. There is always multiple ways to learning one math topic and a student will find a way that they feel comfortable with. Then once you get them to excel at a single step then you can break down these walls and show them that they can be good at mathematics!
My undergraduate education was very extensive into the field of mathematics. I completed almost every math class at Rutgers and it gave me a extensive ... read more

While attending college, I tutored struggling students with there math classes. Some were friends where they would just need quick help on a problem or two and others were other students who needed a full tutor session outside of their class work. I enjoy helping others with their math. I have earned my Bachelors degree in mathematics so I am able to teach all levels.
I love teaching and helping others. I am currently seeking a teaching job in mathematics. Since math is a subject where the students can learn in all different ways, I feel it is important to teach at the level and abilities of the students which can vary.

I am a firm believer in teaching the basic concepts in Mathematics and Statistics in a constructive way so that the students would comprehend/understand the problem and work on their own with some guidance. When I was a graduate student, I was a very popular teaching assistant.
I have taught Mathematics/Statistics at all levels (B.S. and M.S) at both US and Indian Universities for over 3 decades. Because of my passion for teaching, I have taught Mathematics and Statistics in George Washington University, National Institute of Health and University of Virginia, while being a Team Leader/Vice President in Food and Drug Administion and INC. Research, respectively. I have also remotely guided a couple of Senior High School Students in their AP Mathematics courses and project work in Statistics.

A Little Bit About Me...

When tutoring a student, my goal is to help the student come to the solution of a problem through already existing knowledge. I ask questions which help relate a difficult problem to one the student already knows how to solve, and I gently lead them in the direction of the answer without ever explicitly giving it to them myself.
I excelled as a mathematics major at The College of New Jersey, receiving numerous awards and induction into both Pi Mu Epsilon, the national honorary mathematics society, and Phi Beta Kappa, the most prestigious liberal arts honor society in the country. I have 4 years of experience tutoring students in mathematics at both the high school and college level. In the fall I will begin the PhD program in pure mathematics at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst.
