I am passionate about encouraging young people to achieve and surpass their full potential academically and personally. My experience as a Young Life Leader has given me the joy of mentoring high school students for 5 years. I have taught students ranging from different levels of Gardner's Multiple Intelligences as well as varying socioeconomic status. I have earned a bachelor degree, BA in Communication/Journalism, which fuels my passion for reading. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers and articles. In understand the power of reading and what it holds to the child. When I was in high school, I was a regular tutor to children at the middle and elementary schools who needed help with their homework. I love helping children. Over the past year, I served as an Americorps volunteer in an inner city charter school with an emphasis on character education. I worked one on one with students helping them with math, reading, and science skills. I assisted in classroom teaching of mini lessons too. I also helped with their after-school program, I also created supplemental study guides and multimedia software to help students to improve their study skills. Tutoring has been rewarding, because it has increased my interest in the field of education. Subsequently, I am seeking certification in Biology 7-12th.
