Experience Summary
I began my teaching career by working in an urban setting in Pittsburgh. I taught a dynamic group of 4th and 5th graders by creating my own curriculum and thematic units for Science and Social Studies in addition to teaching math courses. My second position was teaching Middle School Math and Science which included 6 different preparations. I have experience teaching and tutoring Fundamental Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus including AP work, Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth Science. Through my extensive course work at Grove City College and professional opportunities, I have acquired proficient computer skills with Microsoft Word, Power Point, Publisher, and Excel. By achieving a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Education to become a certified teacher, I am fully confident in my educational and interpersonal abilities to help students be successful in their learning.
Teaching Style
I am passionate about encouraging young people to achieve and surpass their full potential academically and personally. My experience as a Young Life Leader has given me the joy of mentoring high school students for 5 years. I have taught students ranging from different levels of Gardner's Multiple Intelligences as well as varying socioeconomic status. I welcome the challenge of meeting the educational needs of individual students. I believe that all students can be successful in math and it is my desire to see them achieve that level of success to gain self-confidence. I prefer the discovery method in my teaching style because it gives students a foundation and allows them to build upon it. I strive to develop a mutual respect for all of my students because I am a firm believer that they will not care how much I know, unless they know how much I care.
