A Little Bit About Me...

Everyone has style of teaching that is unique. Mine is at first appearance very laid back, but on closer inspection is very powerful and extremely effective in the long run. My strategy as a teacher is to study and assess a student first, then to develop a plan with the student regarding how we should approach a task or problem. I am big on having students develop a stronger internal locus of control, empowering them to feel capable to tackle anything that they might encounter with or without the help of others.
I first started teaching in 2003 as a substitute to supplement the income from my guiding business during the slower portion of the year. After showing that I was very capable in the classroom and could quickly develop a strong rapport with coworkers and students, I was hired for the year when another teacher left unexpectedly. My high school education was comprised of "alternative" education and a summer semester at Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. Between 1983 and 1989, as a long-term substitute teacher for the ROP (in CA), I taught Computer Sciences (which included Elementary Math and Algebra)at Anderson Valley High School in Boonville CA. As a full-time teacher, I taught Culinary Arts for the ROP for four years at the Fort Bragg High School, Fort Bragg, CA. I tutored students off-hours on an ongoing basis during my tenure as a teacher. For the purpose of this application, I am very interested in tutoring learners in English. I excelled in English in school and have tutored others in English. Throughout my years, professionally and within my personal life and avocation, I have always aspired to learn and to help others learn.
