Genetics is one of my top subjects! I have just completed a PhD in genetics (specifically plant genetics) and I was a TA for Cornell's Introduction to Genetics class for 8 semesters

Though my experience is mostly in molecular biology, it can be expanded to general life sciences. I have just completed a PhD in Genetics at Cornell University with a minor in biochemistry and during my graduate experience, I lectured as a Teaching Assistant for the Introduction to Genetics class for 8 semesters.
My teaching style consists of asking leading questions to enable the student to learn how to think through problems on their own.

My comments on tutoring Genetics : I received my BS in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry with honors in 2010. I took upper level biological genetic courses and excelled. Although I received A grades, it has been 3 years since I took any genetics courses.

I have tutored one-on-one as well as to large groups. My focus is on college level science classes. I feel that bringing creative and unique methods to learning helps student overcome their dispassion or fear. My sessions aim to be positive and motivating. Although I have won numerous awards for my creativity, and presentation methods, the greatest reward have been the smiling faces of my students after the course when they brag about their final grades. Let me show you that you can succeed in science.

More About This Tutor...

In my experience, most students learn best by practicing the material and get bored listening to long lectures. However, as I learned from students and from a college tutoring course, all students have different styles of learning and I tailor my teaching to their needs. I want all of my students to experience that moment when everything just "clicks" and they have the confidence to go on learning and reach their high potentials. I also strive to create a stress-free environment so that students are comfortable asking many questions.
At the University at Buffalo I worked as a tutor for university students in subjects ranging from English and Spanish to biology and calculus. My BS is in biomedical sciences but I am also a proficient writer and have taken many English courses. I received an award for Outstanding English Student in high school. In addition, I worked for the WHIZard Ac ... read more

During my time being a teaching assistant I have learned that the best approach to teaching is a hand's on approach. I like the student/children to think about the question that they are answering and help lead them to the correct answer, I try to not just give them the answer, but instead have them think it over. I enjoy seeing them understand it after we have spent the time explaining and working it out together, as a team.
While obtaining my Master of Science in Biology at the State University of New York College at Brockport I was a teaching assistant for various biology labs. Also as a graduate student I was asked to hold review sessions for the entire Microbiology class for a semester. During these review sessions I would hold lectures and ask any questions, as the Microbiology tutor I also held office hours for all students. While teaching I graded lab reports and helpe ... read more

I love working with people and teaching them about the things that I am passionate about. I am very patient and throughout and I have learned a lot of valuable techniques such as asking the right questions to confirm that the student has learned the lesson as well as planning out what the important points are that I need to cover. I also try to illustrate points using a variety of learning styles that over time I can customize to individual students.
Between my studies at Roberts Wesleyan College in the liberal arts field, where I earned a bachelors degree, and my studies in math and computational science I have an exceptionally broad knowledge base. My work experience further illustrates this having worked briefly as an English teacher in Prague as well as the various sales and customer service jobs I have had including Verizon Wireless, Wegmans, and Radio Shack.
