My experience has been primarily with children within my school or those around my neighborhood. I find that children are more capable of learning in a stable environment that they are familiar with. Children respond well with well timed incentives and subtle reprimands of lost focus. Students are more likely to acknowledge a lack of concentration skills once their intelligence is put into question. All students learn at different levels. I like to incorporate all the learning styles of students. Some learn by hands-on, others by listening, and some by writing. These are all used by me. I follow the teaching strategy of Total Physical Response with commands, and TPR for stories. I find that this gets the students engaged with the foreign language, and they start communicating in Spanish faster than if other teaching styles or strategies were used. I have had good success with TPR and TPRS. The focus of this strategy is teaching language the way a child learns his/her own language, starting with commands, and adding nouns, and adjectives to the verbal commands. Then, we progress into stories, and students interact with the words and phrases of the stories.
