I am a home-schooling mom who has been tutoring mathematics for over ten years. I began tutoring math while still in high school. In college, I facilitated study groups and 1-on-1 tutoring sessions. I graduated with a BA in Mathematics with a GPA of 3.19. I am a member of the Math Honor Society Pi Mu Epsilon. I have spent the last year teaching math through an Adult Education program, where I have helped dozens of people get past there fear of math and move into understanding. I have experience working with a wide spectrum of learning styles and disabilities. I believe that everyone posses the ability to learn and that no two people learn exactly the same way. I present mathematical concepts in a way that will arouse curiosity and interest in the subject in a way that is unusual, new or otherwise fascinating for each individual student. I am a naturally curious person who has always loved words, and spends a good deal of time reading and writing. Throughout my educational career, I have gained experience in reading, analyzing, and writing about various literary works; I enjoy debating the meaning of any written work, and writing about nearly any subject. I love to introduce new friends to my favorite authors and writing styles, and appreciate the chance to learn from other people in regards to the things that interest them! Teaching children of any age is something that I truly enjoy, particularly learning about each child and their interests and manner of learning. I first determine the student's learning style so I have an idea what works for him or her. Learners who have experienced repeated failure need successful experiences to help build self-confidence; I start with what they can do successfully already. Knowing the individual's interests and talents helps me tie the topic to something important to the student, and to help them understand how the topic relates to their present and future lives. Finally, helping the individual understand how she or he learns is the key that will allow him or her to take control.
