I like to involve all the senses: hearing new material; experiencing the reality of an abstract concept and finally teaching or responding it back to show that the lesson has been absorbed at several levels. I like to have fun with teaching so the student will learn to love learning for his or her self.

My experience teaching English has taught me that everyone has the ability to learn. The challenge is to identify the needs and style of the learner and adapt to them. I had students who were mostly visual learners and needed everything written down or printed on handouts; I had students who were mainly auditory learners and needed to have everything said to them, sometimes two or even three times in different ways. Having taught both gifted as well as students with learning disabilities, the one factor I found in common with all of them, is that in order to get them to learn you have to first get them engaged. Although I believe that traditional teaching methods certainly have their place, I am a firm believer in thinking outside of the box, and there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to education. I worked with a lot of students who did not necessarily do well in traditional classroom settings, who suddenly became active participants in their education once I was able to show them that the subject could hold an interest for them outside of the classroom.
