I have two years experience teaching reading to struggling readers through America Reads. One of my students in this program went from the lowest reading group to the highest. During this time I also attended training specific to reading tutoring and weekly meetings with other tutors to discuss strategies and share ideas. I also have a degree in Elementary Education. I believe in instilling a love of learning in the reader that lasts a lifetime. In order to achieve this I work hard to find books for the child to read that sparks a passion within the child. It is also very important to use books that are not too easy or not too difficult for the child. I also plan activities specific to the areas that the child needs to work on that are engaging and fun.

My primary goal is to help students understand the "why" of studies. "Why" do we look for differentials in calculus? "Why" do we describe imagery in poetry instead of just saying how we feel?
