Children say that I am so patient and relaxed. One little girl asked me last week, "how come I don't grate on your nerves? My mom says I grate on her nerves." Well, no child has ever "grated on my nerves" :) Children know I care about them and we develop a mutual respect for each other.

My comments on tutoring English ESOL : Most experienced with Japanese EFL speakers

I have studied and spoken Japanese for around 12 years, speaking at an intermediate level. I understand the intricate workings of the grammar and vocabulary and can thoroughly teach how to speak and understand from logically comprehending its inner mechanisms (I.E. thinking in Japanese) which will make speaking easier. It is easier than it sounds, and simple to understand. Since I speak at an intermediate level, I can help tutor elementary and intermediate Japanese with essential foundations like proper pronunciation, particles and essential vocabulary. I am also open to any other questions you may have in the future. Since I intimately know the Japanese language, I am also capable of teaching English to Japanese speakers as well. As a native English speaker, I can offer help in common confusions in the English language such as pronunciation, definite articles and conjunction. I t ... read more

My teaching style is to show students how to make themselves successful. By motivating my students to do their best every time I can help them exceed expectations and thrive under any situation both academically and socially. Many students focus on what they think they cannot do. What I teach them is to highlight their strengths and improve their weaknesses. I do so with the use of clear directions, constant monitoring, and positive praise. I believe every child can learn it is merely a matter of finding the proper teaching method.
As a University of South Florida college of education graduate I have a wealth of experience with teaching both in the classroom and on a one to one basis. More About This Tutor...

As a second language learner, I am keenly aware of the challenges in learning a new language. I am a native Japanese speaker, although I have attended a language school in Australia, and completed my bachelor's degree in the United States. In addition to my experiences in acquiring a new language, I also have experience as a preschool teacher and English tutor. I tutored junior high and high school students while living in Japan and am familiar with successful methods for imparting an understanding of vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills. Furthermore, as a native Japanese speaker, I am fully capable explaining challenging concepts to my students in their native language to help aid comprehension.
It is my belief that language proficiency stems from extensive practice. Although I see my Japanese language skills as a useful tool in helping other Japanese speakers learn ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Having graduated with honors from a top university, the greatest asset I offer comes from my real world teaching experience. During my tenure as a substitute I have taught at all levels, from kindergarten to middle-aged adults, in all subject areas. Even as a young person I was involved with teaching others; I first began as a teacher's aid in high school and later I served as a tutor in college. This led to teaching full-time at the kindergarten level. Last year I worked in a summer camp in Canada and I completed my TESOL training and I was successful in teaching English in Paris France in the fall. Returning to California I continue to teach part time for the Ventura Unified School District.
My training in rhetoric, speech, and debate has taught me the importance of speaking clearly and articulately. This means that I pay close attention to language and I try to bring out that qu ... read more
