A Little Bit About Me...

From 2005 to 2008 I worked as a teacher and tutor for a Seattle-based test preparation firm. I taught classes for the SAT and GRE and tutored the SAT, GRE, and ACT. I believe I met and exceeded the high standards set by this organization. In 2008 I worked as a regional field director for the Obama campaign in several states, leading trainings in voter contact activities, campaign software systems, and other volunteer activities. Training volunteers of all different backgrounds and educational levels was the key to my task.

A Little Bit About Me...

I attended Foss H.S. in Tacoma and was awarded the International Baccalaureate diploma with the highest cumulative score in my class. I then attended the University of Chicago, where I earned a B.S. degree in Geology in 2006. I have a solid background in math, chemistry and physics as well as the liberal arts, and I have experience writing both for the sciences and the humanities. In high school I tutored ESL middle and elementary school students in reading, writing and math. In college I tutored underprivileged students in math and reading at a South Side grade school and spent several months as a teacher’s assistant in a Kindergarten class. More About This Tutor...

Since completing my formal degree training I have worked in several capacities in the field of education. I taught inner-city young adults in Washington, D.C. in all GED subjects. I worked as a Guidance Counselor and Education Services Officer for the Army for eight years. In the past two years I have tutored under the auspices of Tacoma Community College in all GED subjects. Prior to my work with TCC I tutored in the Kid Reach program for three years.
I try to match my own teaching style with the learning style of the student with whom I am working, paying particular attention to language and vocabulary usage. I also strive to emulate my favorite math teacher's ability to think out loud in teaching any kind of problem solving task.
