I started tutoring in different after-school programs in New York City while in high school. I enjoyed it so much that even while in college, I continued tutoring and being a group counselor. I even had the opportunity to work with a one-on-one tutoring agency in which I traveled to students homes to help them privately. I have also worked as a literacy mentor for daycare children so that they would be ready for pre-school or kindergarten and not be left behind in reading skills. What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education system. I have found this method to be very effective. The other method is patience. Students who strugge with their academic learning usually are having other areas of difficulty which may be social learning. Having clinical training allows me to make a more accurate assessment.

A commercial banker by trade, I currently teach two (2) classes on financial literacy skills to legal immigrant refugees from India, Burma, and Cuba. This volunteer work is offered through the Catholic Charities arm of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. I started teaching these classes roughly six (6) months ago on a volunteer basis, and the classes have been very well received thus far. The first class is entitled "Introduction to Banking", and teaches the fundamentals of personal banking (how to open a checking account, how to write a check, etc.).
