I love children of all ages, including Middle School and Highschool. I do not alweats go by the book. I do what I feel is best for that particular child's learning style. I teach outside the box and encourage learning rather than straight memorization. I help children love learning.
I taught in public school and private. While doing so and during summers, I tutored on my own. I got married in 1986, had three children and stayed out of the classroom for a while. What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education system. I have found this method to be very effective. The other method is patience. Students who strugge with their academic learning usually are having other areas of difficulty which may be social learning. Having clinical training allows me to make a more accurate assessment.
During the last 10 years I have worked with all levels of students, preschool through college levels. These areas include reading, math, english, psychology, science and social studies. I am a self starter and have worked wi ... read more

I believe that patience is key to a child's learning experience. When I was in school, I had teachers that were mostly concerned with tearing through the curriculum. Many times there were some left behind in the process who did not firmly grasp the concepts being taught. In one-on-one tutoring and teaching there is an opportunity to re-learn the material in a different way so that a child who may not have gotten in class has another chance to learn the material. More importantly, I make a great effort to understand HOW a child learns and to tailor my style to his or hers.
I graduated from Clayton State University with an AA in English Lit and then went on to complete my BA at Georgia State University with major in English Lit and a minor in Psychology. I have always had a strong passion and natural inclination toward the fields of math and science. In high school, I was a member of our Varsity Math Team and was named the Outstanding Science Student for the Class of 2006. This love and knowledge of science was further developed in my college career as I worked toward earning my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Biology. Being a science major, I was also required to take many courses in mathematics, and have knowledge in many mathematical areas, ranging from Algebra to Calculus II. In the past, I have tutored middle school age students for community service, but I have also helped other students in my classes gain better knowledge of the concepts we had to learn.
I have come to understand that different people have different ways of learning. I try to utilize any method that I think may be helpful to the student. Whe ... read more

My teaching style is conversational and generally straightforward. I work through translators, so it is important to keep a positive presentation style to avoid misinterpretation and miscommunication. After each segment, I ask the students if they have any questions or concerns. The students are also invited to stop me at any time to ask me questions. I also like to provide visual demonstrations on a white board, which helps me to explain my point in further detail. I provide all my students with my Powerpoint presentation translated into the Bhutanese and Burmese language so that the students have a guide for future reference. My goal is to help the students to understand the U.S. banking system in general, and to overcome any fears or hesitations that they may have about opening a checking account. I teach them how to write a check, and keep a check register. So far, th ... read more

Over the past 12 years, I've earned numerous degrees and certifications, however, none of them compare with what I've learned from the students I've personally taught. Each year in the classroom has taught me that children learn and thrive on a diverse number of situations and goals. I've learned that there is no one right way for any child, and that finding the link to their understanding is essential. As an educator, I believe that additional means of differentiation and individualized learning is desperately needed.
I sincerely believe that my specific learning style is one of trust and love. I firmly believe that in order for a student to learn, they must both trust you and believe that you like or love them. Knowing this, my style of teaching is a personal one. I prefer to push my students within their comfort level. Many of my students often say "this is too hard." Whe ... read more
