I love children of all ages, including Middle School and Highschool. I do not alweats go by the book. I do what I feel is best for that particular child's learning style. I teach outside the box and encourage learning rather than straight memorization. I help children love learning.

I believe that patience is key to a child's learning experience. When I was in school, I had teachers that were mostly concerned with tearing through the curriculum. Many times there were some left behind in the process who did not firmly grasp the concepts being taught. In one-on-one tutoring and teaching there is an opportunity to re-learn the material in a different way so that a child who may not have gotten in class has another chance to learn the material. More importantly, I make a great effort to understand HOW a child learns and to tailor my style to his or hers.
I graduated from Clayton State University with an AA in English Lit and then went on to complete my BA at Georgia State University with major in English Lit and a minor in Psychology. I originally intended to become a teacher but ended up in the Real Estate Industry instead. Over the years, I have informally part ... read more

I have always had a strong passion and natural inclination toward the fields of math and science. In high school, I was a member of our Varsity Math Team and was named the Outstanding Science Student for the Class of 2006. This love and knowledge of science was further developed in my college career as I worked toward earning my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Biology. Being a science major, I was also required to take many courses in mathematics, and have knowledge in many mathematical areas, ranging from Algebra to Calculus II. In the past, I have tutored middle school age students for community service, but I have also helped other students in my classes gain better knowledge of the concepts we had to learn.
I have come to understand that different people have different ways of learning. I try to utilize any method that I think may be helpful to the student. Whe ... read more

My teaching style is conversational and generally straightforward. I work through translators, so it is important to keep a positive presentation style to avoid misinterpretation and miscommunication. After each segment, I ask the students if they have any questions or concerns. The students are also invited to stop me at any time to ask me questions. I also like to provide visual demonstrations on a white board, which helps me to explain my point in further detail. I provide all my students with my Powerpoint presentation translated into the Bhutanese and Burmese language so that the students have a guide for future reference. My goal is to help the students to understand the U.S. banking system in general, and to overcome any fears or hesitations that they may have about opening a checking account. I teach them how to write a check, and keep a check register. So far, th ... read more

I sincerely believe that my specific learning style is one of trust and love. I firmly believe that in order for a student to learn, they must both trust you and believe that you like or love them. Knowing this, my style of teaching is a personal one. I prefer to push my students within their comfort level. Many of my students often say "this is too hard." When I hear this, I know that they are just where they should be. I prefer for my students to make attempts and then allow me to help them before they become frustrated. Guidance more so than teaching is my goal.
Over the past 12 years, I've earned numerous degrees and certifications, however, none of them compare with what I've learned from the students I've personally taught. Each year in the classroom has taught me that children learn and thrive on a diverse number of situations and goals. I've learned that there is no ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have no teaching experience but I'm in the process of getting my State Of Georgia teaching certification though troops to teachers program sponsor by the Georgia Department of Labor. I also applied and was accepted in the Thomson Learning program teaching ESL in South Korea for one year. I was also employed part time as a GED Test Proctor though Harrisburg Area Community College. I was a male mentor and a member of the Big Brother Program in Harrisburg PA.
The teaching style I prefer begins with making each child feel important and presenting the material in a way that everyone understands and feels comfortable. I'm currently enrolled in the Start Smart Early Childhood Subtitute teaching program sponsored though the United Way. This training provides an on hands class stimulation and different teaching methods. It is my goal to make learning fun and rewarding.

During the last 10 years I have worked with all levels of students, preschool through college levels. These areas include reading, math, english, psychology, science and social studies. I am a self starter and have worked with parents when I owned/operated my private daycare. I have since then worked with children in low poverty communities in Atlanta Georgia, in order to provide an alternative method to learning to ensure that children receive the appropriate level of understanding of various subjects.
What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education ... read more

I can be helpful in math up through Algebra II, and have extensive knowledge of counseling, religious studies, writing, and have used accounting a bit in bookkeeping. I could tutor social studies up through high school because I have found such a great overlap between religion and counseling and human services. Right now I am in a class on trauma and presenting on human trafficking. I can tutor English in grammar and writing composition simply because of all the writing I have had to do for college. I took British Lit in my undergrad courses. I have a lot of experience with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and some exposure to Publishing. I could tutor basic computer skills in these areas.
I love teaching and engaging with people of all ages. Everyone learns in a different way, and it is kind of exciting to see how people think and try to connect with them. I believe that it is possible fo ... read more
