Physics is one of my top subjects!

Hello, my name is Alan Reyes. I am a 19 year old college student attending the University of Florida for a BS in Physics and Astronomy. I have been playing chess for 5 years and have placed first in my section in the Jacksonville Open and two years running in the Sunshine Summer Opens 2013 and 2014. I also placed first in my section at the 2014 CFCC Tornado in Orlando. I am currently rated USCF 1705, based on 24 games. At the local Gainesville chess club, I can easily play with Class A players, and am considered among their ranks.

I am currently attending ITT-Technical Institute in Jacksonville, Florida for an A.S. in Computer Aided Drafting and Design. I currently have 72 completed credit hours. My college grade point average is currently 3.53. After finishing up my A.S. (six more credit hours), I plan to further my education at Ellis University online for a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Math and Physics. My entire senior year of high school, I tutored Algebra I and Algebra II students. While mathematics is probably my best subject, I know I would be very capable of tutoring English, the arts, and the sciences.

A Little Bit About Me...

Mostly I prefer relating abstract concepts to everyday life. I believe if a student can parallel course material with events that occur in his or her life then he or she will always remember the concept and have a deeper understanding of it.
After graduation with my BSEE, I have been trying out employment in the Engineering field. My math and physics skills have become the front-runners in my tutoring career. This past summer, I tutored students attending Boston University and Boston College in Allston and Brighton, Massachusetts. A Little Bit About Me...

When teaching a particular subject, I feel it is important to address both the additude and aptitude of the student because they both go hand in hand. Students do not grasp a concept in any subject until they actually experience success in solving a problem dealing with that concept. That success improves their attitude toward the subject and leads to more success. I want to give a student as many opportunities as possible to succeed at solving problems and grasping concepts. I will let him/her solve problems and then give them constructive feedback. This will allow the student to have those small successes that lead to an improved understanding and appreciation of the subject.
