I taught Communications 101 to 20 "lifers" at San Quentin Prison as part of the Prison University Project. Some of these men had not been in a classroom in 20 years. I've also spent three years on the Advertising Review Committee for the California Chapter of the American Lung Association vetting all adverting, marketing and PR messaging for the marketplace. Lastly, I published my first book in 2012 entitled "Buzzkill," which is now used as required reading at Drexel University in a Psychology 101 course. Students learn best when they feel vested in the process of learning and excited about the journey; it is always my goal to convey my passion for the learning experience and my partnership with the student in that process. I am a firm believer in active learning and thus avoid rote memorization exercises and merely showing students how to do something. I approach instruction from the view that “teach[ing] a man to fish, will feed him for a lifetime”.
