Coming from a family of teachers, the importance of education has always been stressed to me. The emphasis was placed not only on succeeding academically, but also to gain a true understanding of the subject matter. I hold an Associates of Applied Science in Community Service and Leadership and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I also hold a Bachelors of Science in Family Studies with a concentration on early childhood education and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I have an extensive knowledge of reading, writing and grammar and have always scored well into the 90th percentiles on standardized tests in these areas. Have played flute for 30 years. Studied under Aubrie Dionne privately. Performed in Ms. Dionne's flute choir's at the Bell Center for the Arts and the Manchester Community Music School. Accepted to the Julius Baker masterclass week long conference in 2001. Began playing with the Strafford Wind Symphony in March of 2003. Currently, I am the principle flutist and section leader positions, which have been held for 4 years. I have taught privately upon request over the last 4 years. I use a variety of teaching styles and methods for children. I use various styles of music, composers and performers in lesson plans. Currently I am using books on music and musicians as part of my lesson plans. I believe literature is extremely important in teaching children. I am direct with children in my classroom. I give them expectations, I set goals, and I follow through. It is important for an instructor to state exactly what is expected of the student in order to help them achieve their goals.
