During my Junior year of high school I began to works as an Associate/Substitute preschool teacher for the Park Hill School District in Parkville, MO. I continued my work through their program during my breaks from being a student in college. On breaks, I was able to work approximately 40hrs/weeks. In spring 2008 I completed an internship in a 7th grade classroom for 4 months. In fall 2008 I completed an internship in an 8th grade classroom for 4 months. Also, in spring 2009 I am currently completing my semester of student teaching in an 8th grade classroom at Warrensburg Middle School in Warrensburg, MO.

A Little Bit About Me...

Physical science and math are often the most difficult subjects for students, but I believe anyone can understand the "basic idea." The difficulty comes from attempting to connect their intuitive understanding with the symbols on the paper. Many students think of these subjects as the memorization of formulas. But if they grasp the "basic idea," they can adapt and apply it to any problems they face. Instead of developing a toolbox of formulas, my goal as a teacher is to help the student develop a toolbox of problem-solving strategies. I learn where a student has strengths and exploit these strengths as a pathway to connecting the tangible and abstract, the "basic idea" and the mathematical symbols.

Science and technology do not have to be difficult or abstract. I know how to make Chemistry interesting and relevant to everyday life. If students need help with the math that is required for Chemistry, I know how to bring them up to speed. When students are willing to keep trying to learn, I will keep trying to help them.

I am a professional scientist and certified teacher in Mathematics and Physics, holding a Missouri State CPC certificate in both areas (valid for 99 years). I have been teaching Regular and College Physics classes at the high school level. Currently, I am teaching Physical and Earth Sciences, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry and Trigonometry. I am also able to teach calculus. I have been taking classes at UMKC to complete the Teacher Education Program.
