A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed helping people, children or the elderly. I have never been in the mentor or tutor field. I have mentored while in high school for reading and English for younger students. I am a recent graduate of kennesaw State University, with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. I believe that I am competent in various areas of biology and chemistry, and will be able to convey that competence. I have taught and tutored at my church and in other volunteer programs since high school. I also currently give drum lessons at a Stephen's Music Company.
I always find myself trying to lead others to figure out material on their own as a I set guidelines for them as they do so. I believe this is the best way for them to learn the material. I do not like to tell my students the answers, inhibiting them from thinking things through. I try to find different ways of teaching material in order to keep them motivated, as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

The method of teaching I prefer is maieutic, i.e., one which draws knowledge from the student, rather than attempts to place it in him/her from without. To me, the process of asking questions and allowing the student's curiosity and intelligence to reach conclusions is far more effective than one-sided lecturing. I am endlessly creative, coming up with myriad examples to illustrate concepts.
In 2006 I taught graphic design topics at Westwood College. In 2007 I taught the same subject at The Creative Circus (roughly equivalent to an MBA program for designers, writers, photographers, and art directors). In 2008 I taught in the design department for Georgia State University. This summer I traveled to a remote region in India to teach English. A Little Bit About Me...

As a Covenant College graduate, I was eager to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I was able to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Community Development. Due to the different core classes required for the major, I was able to take different Economics classes, History classes, and Social science classes. During my four years at Covenant College I was able to tutor students that were taking Spanish as a foreign language. I also was able to tutor middle and high school students from the community.
I love teaching and working with all children. I believe that the young and former generations are entitled to learn in order to participate in today's society. I am extremely patient, and I am willing to teach according to the child's process of learning. My goal and aspiration is to help and encourage the importance of education.
