A Little Bit About Me...

I have 33 successful years experience as a guitarist/songwriter/publisher in Nashville. I was staff guitarist for Hee Haw and other TV shows. I have performed on recordings, television and/or in concert with 25 members of The Country Music Hall of Fame. I am currnetly touring the world with singer - songwriter Don McLean - who wrote and recorded AMERICAN PIE and VINCENT.
I teach in a personal, adaptive and responsive style. I listen first, identify the needs of the student and develop a one on one approach to raise their proficiency. My teaching style has been developed from my experience in volunteer literacy tutoring with Hispanic immigrants, and substitute teaching in Davidson and Williamson County Schools. I have always taught music and instrumental skills in the course of my career.

A Little Bit About Me...

For four years I taught in private schools, where I gave instruction at the middle and high school levels in English, French, Hebrew, computer programming, and office applications (spreadsheets, etc). I taught Math and English for one year at a Huntingdon Learning Center (elementary through high school students). Prior to this I taught French and Linguistics courses at the State University of NY at Albany where I earned a degree in each of those fields. Later I became a database administrator. Today I develop web applications in the C# programming language and the Transact SQL query language. I have also given private music lessons over the years to a total of 20 to 30 students. I play guitar, trumpet, a little piano, and I sing.

A Little Bit About Me...

After completing my student teaching at Fort Campbell High School in Kentucky I was offered a position to teach English at another one of the military schools located on the base. I had thoroughly enjoyed teaching Senior English-it presented a challenge to me as I was only 22 and my "students" were 17 and 18 years old. I helped supervise the Senior play and talent show and found it to be a rewarding experience helping these students to grow in their knowledge of English grammar and to learn to appreciate their study of English literature.
My style of teaching was geared to the individuality of each child and his learning abilities. I feel that each child must learn at his own pace and it is my place to deal with this. As the daughter of educators, I have been exposed to the education system all my life. As a result of this exposure, I became very interested in tutoring and teaching. I taught for two years as a substitute teacher before attending law school. I previously worked as a substitute teacher with Morrow Elementary in North Lauderdale, Florida where I taught test-taking strategies for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. Most recently, I have volunteered with Youth Encouragement services as a tutor.
Based on previous experience I have discovered that the same teaching style does not work for every child. I find that explaining each topic and asking the child question gives a clear indication of their understanding. Based on responses to the questions adjustments may be made to address each child's need.
