A Little Bit About Me...

I have 33 successful years experience as a guitarist/songwriter/publisher in Nashville. I was staff guitarist for Hee Haw and other TV shows. I have performed on recordings, television and/or in concert with 25 members of The Country Music Hall of Fame. I am currnetly touring the world with singer - songwriter Don McLean - who wrote and recorded AMERICAN PIE and VINCENT.
I teach in a personal, adaptive and responsive style. I listen first, identify the needs of the student and develop a one on one approach to raise their proficiency. My teaching style has been developed from my experience in volunteer literacy tutoring with Hispanic immigrants, and substitute teaching in Davidson and Williamson County Schools. Of course, that does not mean learning isn’t work; but part of growing up – and selecting a career – is learning that work can be enjoyable. I should mention that it is not my way to enforce memorization for the sake of it. If you understand concepts, that is much better. I always say “an example is the embodiment of a rule”. A Little Bit About Me...

My style of teaching was geared to the individuality of each child and his learning abilities. I feel that each child must learn at his own pace and it is my place to deal with this. I think that the teacher must motivate the child to want to learn and to discover the innate ability within each child. It was my job to make learning fun, creative, desirable and ultimately rewarding.
After completing my student teaching at Fort Campbell High School in Kentucky I was offered a position to teach English at another one of the military schools located on the base. Based on previous experience I have discovered that the same teaching style does not work for every child. I find that explaining each topic and asking the child question gives a clear indication of their understanding. Based on responses to the questions adjustments may be made to address each child's need.
As the daughter of educators, I have been exposed to the education system all my life. As a result of this exposure, I became very interested in tutoring and teaching. I taught for two years as a substitute teacher before attending law school. I previously worked as a substitute teacher with Morrow Elementary in North Lauderdale, Florida where I taught test-taking strategies for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. Most recently, I have volunteered with Youth Encouragement services as a tutor.
