I designed and taught a first-ever prekindergarten program at St. Anne School in Somerset, WI. I also directed and taught children's programs with the YMCA for children age birth through prekindergarten, having received the YMCA Focus Award for Excellence in Children's Programs. I directed the marketing and campaign programs for a school, which allowed me to utilize my expertise in writing, finances, community relations, as well as written and verbal communication. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experience began during high school when I would help out at my church's Sunday School providing remedial services like handing out papers. Since then I have earned a bachelor's degree in finance and economics with ambitions to earn a PhD. During my undergraduate experience I tutored beginning accounting students for a couple hours a week aside from the usual work of helping classmates. Upon graduation I began looking other ways to continue teaching. About 10 months ago I began volunteering at a community center. There I partnered with another gentleman to teach English as a language to immigrants. It was so much that I decided to make this a weekly ritual. As a high school student, I began teaching Sunday School and continued throughout my college years. While stationed in the USAF in Alaska, I decided to pursue teaching as a career. Upon completing college with a BS degree in Mathematics with an education emphasis, I began teaching high school math and science. I have taught in five different schools for a total of 31 years. During that time I also coached many extra-curricular school sports teams. Now I am teaching ACT and SAT prep classes in various schools of the Minnesota area. Being overwhelmed with information that is just not making sense can be frustrating and most teachers don't have the time to give individual attention to each student. Ever student has different needs and I can help them focus on areas they doesn't understand as well as others. I can also show students that studying can be fun.

I am in the Education field to make a difference in student’s lives. I hope to do this through instruction and example. I believe these two elements intertwined and essential for any educator. I am value the “Teacher as facilitator” education model. Today, I classify my teaching style as a constructivist theory with humanist elements. I believe that a combination of these three models will ensure the greatest amount of learning for students as I prepare them for further education. In my experience, working with at-risk, failing, or youth in general requires a level of acceptance from the student. Educators cannot reach that level if they talk down to their students.
