Upon matriculation at Colby, I enrolled in organic chemistry and decided to major in chemistry. I continued my studies in chemistry and additional areas of interest, including math, government, and economics. Before graduating I participated in an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates at UC Riverside. With the guidance of my primary investigator and a grad student, I gained experience doing research into the fabrication of nano-structures (in this case, reusable and gas-specific sensing devices, or an "e-nose"). I am a valedictorian candidate, graduating with a degree in English. My background in English is both technical, focusing on classics in British and early American literature, while my position as editor of the Sierra Nevada Review, an annual publication of poetry, affords me a creative grasp of writing. A Little Bit About Me...

Mathematics is a field that extends beyond a series of procedures as it taught far too widely these days. My stress is on conceptual understanding, as it is the key to understanding the subject. Even moreso than the procedures that we have been accustomed to viewing as being the core of Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus, conceputal underpinnings are what the make the subject meaningful.
I am a former mathematics teacher who is interested in returning to the profession. I have both tutored and taught the subject in the past, and have test scores that demonstrate my current proficiency.
