One on one or group. Lessons taught, homework assigned, then follow up of homework assignment.
My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store.

My major complaint with the current pedagogy of STEM fields is there focus on teaching students to be able to produce answers so a slew of canned and frankly uninteresting problem sets. There is so much interesting literature, philosophy, and history in the fields of science and physics that it makes very little sense to muddle with these less helpful and dull techniques and problems. Physics and math education has become so perforated with cliche that shows like Cosmos and the elegant universe can become hits by just regurgitating the same buzz-theories (Schrodinger's cat, Black holes, the multiverse etc.) in the same, cloddish language (space-time is 'warped' and twisted, quantum 'weirdness', etc). This lack of original language and analogy is not a semantical issue; it's suggestive of the philistine cleaving of the sciences from the arts and it's very disturbing -- these truly awesome ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Hi, my name is Brittany G. I am a graduate of Southeastern University where I earned a B.S. in General Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Western Governor's University where I earned a Master's in teaching Science. I have been teaching for Sarasota County since 2007. I've taught a variety of different subjects for all grade levels from basic middle school math and science to Honor's Anatomy and Physiology, Algebra, Informal Geometry, Physical Science, and have recently been tutoring for college level algebra and trigonometry, probability and statistics, chemistry and biology. It is my belief in order to effectively teach a variety of students the information needs to be presented and taught in a variety of ways. It is my goal as a teacher and tutor to discover how you learn best and help you gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

I have a versatile background that began with two business degrees and progressed to a professional career in purchasing and sales. I discovered along the way that my true passion was teaching and I can be more effective in a tutoring one-on-one situation than a classroom setting. I am highly proficient and have tutored nearly all subjects and grade levels.
Teach a man to fish...is for life. Tutoring is the same, especially with younger children. I haven't met a student yet who is unable to learn. My job is to find the method that will best enable students to self-actualize their learning. A success is converting the child's approach and passion for learning. If I helped to change the child's mind about learning, I have literally altered the course of his/her life in a positive way.

I start off by asking the student what he/she is having difficulty understanding in regard to the material we are going over. Then, I proceed to monitor how the student solves problems. Watching the problem-solving methods of students allows me to determine almost immediately where I need to place attention for assistance. I find it very crucial to demonstrate how to solve the problem after the student has made an attempt, in order to teach the quickest and easiest way to answer the problem. I believe heavily in repetition. Students learn best with familiarity, so I have them perform many problems and teach them how to do so systematically.
I have earned two bachelor degrees (BS in Biology and BS in Chemical Engineering) which have enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math and science. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing res ... read more

I have my professional certification in Elementary K-6 and Physical Education K-12. I recently taught Kindergarten and I have more than 30 years experience working with children of all ages. Along with teaching I have twice owned my own school and been the Director of many schools and summer camps. The greatest contribution to children and youth is to help them get a good education. I love seeing students grasp new concepts and grow in their understanding of math and science. There are many different needs in the classroom and I believe I have a deep understanding of those needs and the ability to meet each one. The latest research shows that there a multiple ways students learn and I have been applying these in teaching to best reach each student at his/her level and interest. I am the father of three daughters and a former youth pastor. I love helping students succeed.

I love to tutor and work with students of all ages. Every student has their own learning style that must be found to help the student efficiently and substantially. I want to provide the best education possible by learning about the student and finding the best way to display topics to them. Every student already possesses the potential to succeed in any academic field; they just need great teachers, good study partners, great learning environments, and many learning experiences. I try to present material in a fashion that will hold the students interest and I also like to use visual aids. Learning must be made fun for the student for them to absorb the greatest amount of knowledge that they can!

My teacher style reflects my strong beliefs in interaction and relevance as the keys to successful learning. Moreover, teaching in a wide variety of settings has instilled in me the importance of personal attention to the whole student. Professor John Rassias developed the Rassias Method (R)to rapidly teach language to Peace Corps volunteers. It engages the students on a logical, emotional and interpersonal level immediately, mimicking the immersion environment of real international settings to the greatest degree possible. While this level of instruction is the ideal, I have dealt with the most fundamental and challenging situations of homesick students and young people with serious challenges in their personal lives. Such challenges are primary needs, and the pursuit of mastery never overshadows such concerns in my instruction

I am a person who very much enjoys helping people understand subjects that are scary and difficult for them. Presently, I am teaching linear algebra to a dyslexic woman. She's taken the class five times and this time she is passing! In the past, I have tutored physics, algebra, calculus, finite math, statistics, elementary school math, and freshman, bio- and organic chemistry. I have taught a 4 1/2 and 3 1/2 yr old to read, taught the 3 1/2 yr. old additon and subtraction, and a fourth grader algebra. Also, I have helped students to organize and write papers using proper grammar. In college, I tutored one-on-one and in small groups.
I enjoy teaching because I like the "ah ha!" or "eureka!" that people have when they discover and learn. I enjoy seeing them develop confidence in themselves. My goal is to teach in a way that the student can grasp and I realize that different peop ... read more

Excellent with children, I can adjust my teaching style with the personality of the child. No child learns the same, so it is important to create a learning plan that builds trust and respect between the child and tutor. I have found my greatest attribute is the ability to make learning fun and “cool.” I am passionate about teaching. If the children you teach can sense your passion for the subject, they will absorb that energy and want to excel. I also consider myself very patient - frustration has a very negative effect when trying to create a positive learning environment. Finally, I believe in creating a benchmark style constructional curriculum. I strive to instill the same love for learning my teachers gave me. Learning is for life.

Teaching to me comes quite easy. I have a great way of making sure the student fully understands all concepts and can apply them to any question or problem that the student may see in the future. I will adjust my learning techniques to fit the student to ensure the student is learning at an optimal level.
As a person with a Bachelors degree and masters, I feel as though I am fully qualified to teach in numerous areas. I always excelled in subjects in high school, undergraduate courses and my master's level classes.

I achieved Summa Cum Laude honors from Sacred Heart University (SHU) and Magna Cum Laude honors from the University of South Florida (USF). In addition, I also graduated with the Gold Medal of Excellence (as the #1 computer science graduate in my class) at SHU. I have tutored students at the high school and college level for over nine years in varying disciplines: mathematics, sciences, computer science, psychology, and writing to name a few. Aside from my tutoring experience and academic success, I have real-world experience working in the computer science and healthcare industry. This knowledge allows me to create a simple to understand, yet powerful "connection of interest" between the student and their enthusiasm to learn. In other words, I am able to justify why the information the student is learning is relevant and how it applies to the real world.
