My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : Learning Behavior Specialist classes taken and passed.

As a certified teacher, I have several hundred hours in a classroom with field experience and student teaching. I am familiar with state and Common Core standards, classroom lingo, and classroom/school procedures. I have experience with creating lessons that are engaging, interactive, and tied to real-life scenarios. I also have experience with small group and one-on-one instruction.
I like to teach the student, which means I tailor lessons/activities and supplemental materials to the student. The goal is to see where the student, where the student needs to be, and find the road that will merge the two in the most beneficial way for the student.

I truly enjoy helping children reach their full potential. I believe that children who don't understand a subject just haven't had it explained to them in their way of learning and I believe I can find their way. I use patience, understanding, and humor to ease their minds but still am able to convey a sense of high expectation of them. Then, I explain concepts to them in a variety of ways until they can comprehend the subject manner. This includes using diagrams, creating a real-life situations where the concept is applied, drawing analogies that to which they can relate, or developing a game out of the lesson. I have a very unique way of teaching. My key to success works on a system of discipline and rewards. I find creative ways to make the most mundane tasks fun to accomplish. I think the number on rule in teaching strategy should be finding a way to make the process enjoyable. I believe most kids that do poorly in school have an incredibly hard time putting their hearts into tutoring. In my professional experience, it is almost like pouring salt on the wound when they don't do well in school and then have to suffer through more torture after school.
