As a certified teacher, I have several hundred hours in a classroom with field experience and student teaching. I am familiar with state and Common Core standards, classroom lingo, and classroom/school procedures. I have experience with creating lessons that are engaging, interactive, and tied to real-life scenarios. I also have experience with small group and one-on-one instruction.
I like to teach the student, which means I tailor lessons/activities and supplemental materials to the student. The goal is to see where the student, where the student needs to be, and find the road that will merge the two in the most beneficial way for the student.

I truly enjoy helping children reach their full potential. I believe that children who don't understand a subject just haven't had it explained to them in their way of learning and I believe I can find their way. I use patience, understanding, and humor to ease their minds but still am able to convey a sense of high expectation of them. Then, I explain concepts to them in a variety of ways until they can comprehend the subject manner. I spent 10 years directing an adult literacy program where I trained volunteers to be tutors and tutored myself. During that time I took an intensive training course on working with people with learning disabilities. I have worked with ESOL students, as well.

After graduating from college with a degree in English, I pursued a career in the corporate field. I did not find it satisfying and yearned to return to school to pursue a master's in education. I began substitute teaching in spring of 2007 and completed my student teaching in December 2007.
