I have 10 years of full-time counseling experience and 25 years of part-time teaching experience. As a counselor, I work in a completely individualized way with each student- sometimes emphasizing tricks, techniques, timing and speed reading, sometimes emphasizing content. 28 years of tutoring for SAT. 15 years for ACT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, etc. I have devised unique guessing strategies for multiple choice tests that by themselves have significantly raised students' scores. I believe most students can learn or solve any problem by talking it through, which is often easier and more effective than simply trying to think it through silently. I like working with children of all ages. I believe that children of all ages and cultural backgrounds can learn if given a proper chance. I even managed to teach children in South Korea, when I didn't speak Korean at all and my students had limited English skills. I taught them through games and use of our workbooks and student books. I believe in making learning a fun experience with lots of games and an easy going manner. If the kid is bored or unhappy, it is going to make it much harder for the child to learn. I try to also reach my students at the level where they are at. If a student is at a lower level of understanding, I will start with them there and slowly challenge and build them to a higher level.
