I am a veteran Teacher of Mathematics; I have been affiliated with the Jackson Public Schools District approximately twenty (20) years or more, serving in various positions as a Limited Substitute Teacher in Mathematics (primarily), English and JROTC as well. I am also proficient in the teaching of English and Preparatory Writing in which I taught on the college level as an instructor here locally. As a computer programmer or systems analyst, I kept my math skills sharp through my entire career. I try to see what the student already knows and go from there. Of course it is important that a student get an assigned math problem correct, but it is also important that the student UNDERSTANDS why something works and how that can be applied to other problems when a tutor or teacher isn't present. Math and algebra were my best subjects in high school and college. As a computer programmer, I would frequently have to solve a "word problem" before creating a program that implemented my solution.
