My comments on tutoring Organic Chemistry : I hold a Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences degree in Medicinal and Biological Chemistry from the University of Toledo. My major required me to take over 20 hours of chemistry electives, half of which were organic chemistry courses. I am well-versed in reaction mechanisms, stereochemistry and isomers, properties of the various functional groups, and molecular nomenclature.

Since graduating from The University of Toledo in 2011, I have worked at a local pharmaceutical company as a chemist. I have been tutoring high school and college students in the Cleveland area for more than four years. I have experience with students on the Autism Spectrum, ESL students, students pursuing their graduate degrees and those wanting help with study tips. My sessions revolve around the needs of the student and are tailored for their success. I use technology, creativity and ingenuity to ensure my students not only understand the material but can retain it as well. I am a great tutoring candidate, because my education (two Bachelor's degrees: Medicinal-Biological Chemistry and German) provides me with a solid foundation in many areas such as ACT/SAT prep and general study tools. Because of my career, I have developed a proficiency in the sciences, mathematics and all aspec ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a laid back teaching style, prefer the student to have fun while learning new and interesting things. I prefer the Socratic style.
Have taught many of my peers in a wide variety of subjects including history, science, and math. I also taught Introductory Biology lab course at the University of Dayton. I have also taught in a more informal environment at the Great Lakes Science Center, where I ran science day camps for grades 2-8. Also played varsity football in college, which I would be more than happy to tutor in as well. I graduated from Oberlin College in 2012 where I majored in Biology. Coursework included genetics, evolution, ecology, molecular biology, vertebrate structure and function, physiology, neuroscience, neurophysiology, ancient egyptian culture, human origins, economics, ancient greek and roman history, american history, calculus, and statistics. I have a variety of experience. Most of my tutoring experience is with older students, aged 15 or older. However, I feel that I could work with younger kids as well. I love learning, and I get excited when a student fully grasps the material. I try and reinforce a teachers method of teaching. However, if repetition is not the issue, than I try and explain topics in different ways with lots of examples.I believe a tutor can really be a great supplement to the classroom teacher.

I believe that comparing complex concepts to everyday, personal objects and situations is the most effective way to learn. Therefore, I am big on metaphors. Algebraic concepts and formulas can often be, I have found, analogous to much simpler ideas or images. Once the abstract is related to the mundane, we can break down the barrier to understanding that can be an automatic or habitual construction for many people. I am also an advocate of learning by example; I will walk through a problem or two, step by step, until the process becomes obvious. From there, equations can become identifiable patterns that essentially require you to simply "fill in the blanks".
I earned a 98% in my College Algebra course this past fall so I am here to lend a hand to those who could use it. My focus in college was Communication with a minor in Philosophy. I also studied international relations for 6 m ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My years of tutoring has taught me that each individual has his or her personal learning style (some students learn better with visual aids, while others learn better through repitition). It is this understanding that helps me to adjust my teaching style to fit the individual. I encourage students to think critically and to draw from their reserve of background information when solving problems. I teach students how to develop good study habits, the fundamentals of problem solving and proper time management. Learning can be a fun and rewarding experience for anyone.
I've always enjoyed tutoring. Helping students reach their full potential is a very rewarding experience for me. I tutored 1st and 2nd year college level Biology and Chemistry for 2.5 years while attending school at The City College of New York. I have a strong grasp of chemistry and I possess teaching aids t ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a great advocate of education, I aim to offer my students with the best learning experience possible. For that reason, while tutoring in college, I started reading and learning about the many teaching styles used in schools. This helped me find my own teaching style that focuses on each student individually. I try to mix several teaching styles in order for the student to understand and feel comfortable with the material. However, based on my own personal experiences, the teaching style that provided the best results to my students was the demonstrator teaching style. I use audio, video, role playing, personal experiences, class discussions, brainstorming, critical thinking, and other direct observations to allow students to use all their senses in their learning experience. I try to plan my lessons and educational activities in a manner that tends to simplify and clearly represent th ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching children of all ages. I believe that all children have the ability to learn even the toughest of subjects if they have the desire to learn and the proper tools to succeed. My goal is to provide the best learning experience possible by making the material fun and remaining patient while giving encouragement.
